Magento Teaserbox released

Magento Teaserbox released

We are very happy to annouce, that we have released a new Community Extension called Magento Teaserbox – the best thing about it, it’s totally free. The extension is available on Magento Connect and has surpassed 100 downloads in total already.

So, if you are interested in a flash based Magento extension which can handle easily your recently added or featured products, this module might be the right tool for your needs. The possibilities are almost boundless. Features like auto-sliding your images the vertical or horizontal way within a specific time period, which you can define within the Magento backend, are implemented. Find more features on the product page itself. If you have any trouble, just take a look at the official extension forums and skim the threads or open a new one. You will also find a showcase thread where you can post your store’s URL containing Magento Teaserbox. Now take a look at the demo.

    We successfully installed TeaserBox and we are faily satisfied with it. The number one concern at this point is that it doesn’t have Flash detection. Therefore, when a user gets to a page using TeaserBox a message appears saying, “Magento Template by velite”. Not exactly the experience we want for our customers. Every other Flash element on our site is coded to prompt a user to download the missing Flash plugin and we have added a script to our header to detect flash. However, TeaserBox is the only Flash element on the home page and does not have detection built into the Flash code… therefore… no flash. :(

    Just sent velite and email and I’m sure they will respond soon. Otherwise, very cool plug-ins. Must have detection though. Just my two cents.

    Hi,

    you can change the noflash default-text by commenting out the line “echo $this->getTeaserboxDiv();” located in template/teaserbox/box.html.
    Instead put in this:

    <div id='teaserboxBox'>
    YOURE NOFLASH TEXT HERE
    </div>

    Best Regards,

    Simon

    Thanks for your reply Simon. My biggest concern is that our javascript flash detection script does not work with TeaserBox and we have not figured out a way to make it work? I do appreciate that their is a way to add a text based link that could redirect people to download the Adobe Flash Player, but doing it with a link takes them away from our site rather than initiating a download and bringing them back to our content once they have finished installing the plug-in. We are experimenting with a Flash XML banner to be used on our homepage now, though it seems to have it’s own suite of problems. 1. XML call not loading in IE (works fine in Firefox, Safari and Chrome.) Thanks again for your remarks. Good one to leave up in the blog. I’m sure others will use your suggestion. Take care.
